For many patients, the first treatment session lasts around two hours and will start with me taking a full case history. This covers a broad spectrum of your general health background, any operations, any medication taken and onto the specifics of your current condition.
Moving on from your case history I will take your pulse from both wrists and sometimes ask to look at your tongue to help provide information about your present and underlying health conditions from an acupuncture perspective. Any physical injuries will be discussed and if necessary examined with a gentle palpation.
Following your examination, the Acupuncture treatment will begin. During the treatment, fine stainless steel needles will be inserted at specific points on the body. These needles are sometimes left in place for around 20 minutes, depending on the condition being treated. There is little pain aside from a slight pricking and no pain once the needles have been inserted. Patients generally feel very relaxed and calm after a treatment.
Follow on treatment sessions will last between 45 minutes and one hour.
