Hopi Ear Candling, also known as Thermal Auricular Therapy is a pleasant, relaxing, non-invasive treatment of the ear.
The candles themselves are made from the natural ingredients of beeswax, honey extracts, sage, St John’s Wort, chamomile and organically grown flax. The candles work by vaporising these ingredients and causing mild suction in the ear, the vapours gently massage the eardrum and ear canal. Once the candle is placed in the ear, it forms a seal that enables wax and other impurities to be drawn out.
Hopi ear candling has been used for thousands of years and may help a variety of conditions including:
- Vertigo & dizziness
- Headaches & migraines
- Blocked ears caused by hay fever
- Pressure in the ear caused by travelling – some people choose to have this treatment to breakdown excess wax and relieve pressure before flying
- Swimmer’s ear
- Glue ear
Each treatment session takes around an hour. At the beginning of the session we will discuss your medical history and the problems you are currently experiencing. You will then lay in a comfortable position on my treatment couch before the Hopi ear candle is placed gently into the first ear, lit and held in place for approximately ten minutes, after which the ear is cleaned. We will then repeat the procedure on your other ear. The treatment itself is pleasant and soothing and the outcome is often described as a “warm and relaxed feeling” in the ears and head.
